There’s No Better Time Than Now to Embrace Entrepreneurship

One of my favorite quotes is “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” Hockey Hall of Famer Wayne Gretzky is the attributed source. One of the reasons why I think this quote resonates with me so much is that it’s universal to everyone and every situation. Each day is filled with new opportunities, possibilities, and choices. You can say yes or no. You can say “not now” and postpone for later. Or, you may choose to carpe diem, roll the dice, and move forward in pursuing your dreams no matter how trying circumstances are is in the present moment.

I stand with small businesses and entrepreneurs. I’m the leader of a company that helps small business owners to incorporate and form LLCs for startups. Nothing makes me and my team more excited to see people take their dream and bring it to life as a small business.

During an unprecedented time like the COVID-19 pandemic, I think it’s important to reflect on the good. Embracing entrepreneurship, as scary as that may seem in the present, is an action that can truly change your life and countless lives of others for the better.

Creativity isn’t cancelled.

There are many measures individuals must follow at the present moment, like practicing social distancing and staying home, in order to protect the public health. Quarantine time, however, is precious time. It is time that we are able to spend with our loved ones and it is also time that we are able to reconnect with our personal sense of self.

Creativity isn’t cancelled. Imagination, innovation, new ideas—none of this is cancelled. Lean into doing more activities that bring you joy. Read to learn about an interesting topic and find ways to position yourself as an expert in that field. Dust off your ideas for dream projects that were put on hold simply because there wasn’t enough time in the “normal” times to tackle them.

All throughout history, exceptional and challenging periods of time alike, great minds have created stunning works of art, entertained audiences, and built up communities.

Use this time to reconnect with what you love to do or pinpoint what it is that brings you great joy. You don’t need to pressure yourself to write the next great American novel, get it published, and sell a million copies. Instead, let your mind percolate with fresh, new thoughts. What would you like to do post quarantine? What can you start doing right now while you have this time?

Embracing entrepreneurship means embracing the unknown.

Being an entrepreneur means being comfortable with taking a risk. Or risks, as you’ll likely be making more than one leap forward! There is reward within risk, of course, but the rewards don’t often look the way we imagine. The same thing can be said about taking a risk.

When you embrace entrepreneurship, you embrace the unknown. The road ahead is not going to be smooth and direct. There will be bumps. You’ll need to invest all of your time and energy into making it work. Difficult decisions will be made along the way and your strength will be tested to its absolute limits. Frankly, embracing the unknown when we’re currently in the midst of so much unknown may sound like the most terrifying thing possible to do.

But it’s time to begin. You know the phrase there’s no time like the present? This is it. This is the present. Your passions and dreams are right in front of you. Is anything really that impossible to do now that you see a path opening up? I don’t think it is. If anything, I believe entrepreneurship is the “normal” you have always wanted in and for your life.

If you want to be the change you wish to see in the world, that change is calling your name. Will you answer and charge into the unknown?
